Boomkat Product Review:
The man also known as Dr. Who Dat sucks us into a psyched-out hiphop void for the 1st drop on his new Label Who imprint. 'Android Love Mayhem' is a like pulpy romantic sci-fi take on the whole woozy instro-beat thing, rotating between miniature short stories for aliens and pop-hoppier takes the standout tale 'Android Romance 1 & 2'. Here, he gives his own mournful vocals to cosmic synthline spurts, simple but emotive keys and well padded bump beats buried at its core. Both this and the equally excellent 'Going Home' featuring Micah Gough of New York's Apollo Heights sound uncannily alike TV On The Radio, who Jarel has previously worked with, and perhaps a dash of OPN's synthy yearnings. With the shorter efforts we compare him to the likes of Samiyam or Ras G, with well controlled-yet-murky head nod rhythms textured with flecks of space dust. Heavy.
