Boomkat Product Review:
Malka Spigel (Minimal Compact) and Colin Newman (Wire) revive their Immersion duo for the first time since 1999 with five expansive post-rock, synth and minimal techno hybrids on Analogue Creatures.
The pair’s remerge was prompted by an “unexpectedly inspirational synth shopping trip in New York at the end of Wire’s US tour” in 2015, which nudged the married couple to return to a sound they started exploring with early releases on their Swim ~ label back in ’93/’94.
In effect, these five pieces are a fine marker of the time and space which has elapsed since they gave up the Immersion ghost, presenting an efficient, fluidly reduced and urgent sound that might not be troubling any clubs in the near future, yet still captures a vitality and forward drive that’s been core to both their catalogues since the beginning.
