Boomkat Product Review:
New York three-piece Violens are led by songwriter/producer Jorge Elbrecht, known for his work with Lansing-Dreiden. This debut full-length arrives on the heels of the much-blogged and much-loved 'Acid Reign' single which remains one of Amoral's key moments. Beyond that standout, the album mines influences from the pop climate of the 1980s (the press release volunteers Simple Minds - which seems especially pertinent on 'Until It's Unlit' - and OMD among others), delivering various slices of made-over nostalgia. You'll encounter pleasing pop nuggets like 'The Dawn Of Your Happiness Is Rising' and the excellent 'Are You Still In The Illusion?' along the way, as well as all-out '80s vibe-fests 'Trance-Like Turn' and 'It Couldn't Be Perceived', whose upstart new-romantic synth-bestowed pop isn't too far away from Duran Duran in all their pomp. Recommended.
