Boomkat Product Review:
Another Sun City Girls related project – when are we going to get sick of them? Well never if mr. Alan Bishop keeps the quality up as high as is on show here – this disc was recorded way back in the 80s (1981-1989) so I guess by current standards that should mean it’s trendy. It was originally released in 1994 on limited edition vinyl, and now we see the first cd release, and about time too. The album is a collection of short guitar improvisations and experimentations recorded on a variety of home cassette recorders, and it works marvellously. I’m very partial to the sound of dirty old tape, Vincent Gallo cunningly nailed that sound on his two Warp released records, and for those of you hungry for more this is just the ticket. Occasionally straying into Bishop’s typical abstract Eastern territory, we have an extremely varied but gripping 32 track record here, proving that short things can sometimes be more satisfying than you’d ever realise.
