Boomkat Product Review:
Opal Tapes set out their stall with this 2nd release by Personable aka M. Geddes Gengras - the hugely in-demand LA lynchpin and collaborator with Sun Araw, LA Vampires, Pocahaunted. As with the label's other edition from Dro Carey, Gengras takes the opportunity to flex his destroyed Techno inclinations, lashing himself to a muddy, morphing 4/4 pulse while stray, demented modular synth patterns uncoil and spill all o'er the groove. It's Techno in the purest sense, stripped to the barest essentials and fuelled by the intent to hypnotise, propel and consume. But of course, coming from someone with no background in such stuff his approach is rudimentary and unhindered by prior expectations, resulting in six brilliantly psyched and lashed wormhole grooves strongly recommended to fans of Diamond Catalog, KPLR, Container, or even early Plastikman.
