Boomkat Product Review:
For our money the most gifted of all the Kompakt producers, this killer twelve from Koze comes to us on the uber-consistant Philpot label and kicks off with a brooding piece of hypnotic low-end minimalism that's just too good for words. The build up is long and slow, the track eventually falling into a kind of jacking pace that's accompanied by brief narration and analogue hooks the spread in and out of the mix at random. This may well be Club music, but it has the same sense of self restraint, confidence and innovation that makes producers like Kode 9 (albeit in a totally different musical arena) such a pleasure to listen to. The flipside is more ambitious in scope, a long, developed track that shimmers into life with layered chords and those effortless melodic flourishes that this producer is so well loved for - making for a track that's tanked-up and reflective with equal measure - quite a feat. Great twelve - buy!
