Boomkat Product Review:
Fed up of The Crazy Frog and Sweetie the Chick? Long for something that'll make you a Sven with the ladies? Then why not buy yourself a Future Sound of London ringtone? Yours for just 3 bone! Don't believe us? Then have a look at the extensive instructions included in this album's sleeve notes. Whatever next. Formed by FSOL to expel their more overtly prog-rock tendencies, the Amorphous Androgynous make "samplerdelic, funkoid, rocktronic oozescapes" which should really come with a free cloak and dry-ice machine. Steeped in the spangled entrails of Rick Wakeman, songs like 'The Emptiness of Nothing' and 'The Witch Finder' are brimming with noodling guitars, Indian influenced percussion and, in the case of the latter, some Lloyd Webber rock opera vocals.Yowzers. At times straying a bit too close to Kula Shaker/The Music territory for anyone liking, 'Alice in Ultraland' is so over the top it can't be anything but an affectionate send-up. However this isn't to say there aren't some moments of brilliance amongst the posturing; with the fug-rock of 'Billy The Onion', the creepy Vangelis soundscapes of 'The Wicker Doll' and the Hammond drenched Chi-Lites meets Air of 'All Is Harvest' worthy of special mention. Pass the bong.
