Boomkat Product Review:
Everyone's favourite desert-dwelling purveyors of lush Americana present their first new album proper in some four years with 'Algiers'. The group originally wanted to record their latest LP in Europe, but living the country slow-life, as they do, they never got around to it and ended up in New Orleans. And that city's influence is written deep into their sixth album, resulting a set of twelve worldly songs melding traces of country rock with deep-fried mariachi, twinges of bossa and the warm gulf currents of traditional Caribbean and Latin modes wafting in a certain sense of vintage Gallic charm. There's a very good reason why the likes of Willie Nelson and Nancy Sinatra have worked with Calexico. The evidence is all here.
