Boomkat Product Review:
Luxurious debut collaborative project from two Berlin House veterans. Christian Prommer, drummer of choice for the Berlin jazz-house set, and Jazzanova producer/vocalist Alexander Barck have been working together for the last few years, before combining talents on 'Alex and the Grizzly', the first release on Compost's new sublabel, Derwin Recordings. There's distinct shades of their previous work, but it's certainly not as jazz-tasteful as you might expect, covering a clutch of electronic sub-strata with a mature pop slant, no doubt enhanced by Barck's vox and guest appearances from James Teej and Dollkraut. Initial highlights have to be the widescreen, Talk Talk-esque epic 'Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde', the slow-House cabaret of 'Gladys Knight', the Mr. Fingers-debted square bass grover 'Journey' or the Balearic drift of 'Sleeping Beauty', but we reckon you're all going to have your favourites for the BBQ or the beach.
