Boomkat Product Review:
Pablo Dias-Reixa's El Guincho project has found itself notching up Panda Bear comparisons, largely thanks to the loop-based sample stacking and psychedelic repetitions that inform its structure. Dias-Reixa snatches sounds from the musical reserves of Latin America and the now obligatory Afro pop sources to fashion a collection of Spanish language songs in a fiesta-flavoured setting. On paper this is probably the most fashionable record imaginable (at least for this week), and it would be all too easy getting cynical when criticising it, but the amount of reiteration going on with these samples verges on the excessive, and this does feel like a record made by someone who announced to himself "I shall remake Person Pitch, but with a greater emphasis on steel drums and maracas." It is, however, quite brilliant nonetheless. Highly Recommended.
