Boomkat Product Review:
Alabama acoustic porch folk blanketed in Marin County fog, this is the debut release for this collective fronted by songwriter Nathan d. Shineywater, featuring Rachel Hughes on haunted whisper of a vocal and acoustic piano, the instrumentation on this album complements Plush Canyon vocals. Paul Oldham engineered and helped produce some of the songs, he also played the bass guitar. Brother Will Oldham (Palace, Bonnie Prince Billy etc) even stopped by one day to sing a high harmony. Claimed influences range from My Bloody Valentine to the Grateful Dead’s early records. The music is as friendly as it is stony, like a countrified galaxie 500 or Mazzy Star. There’s even a little willie nelson-esque camp-fire ballad “old letters”. Lovely.
