Boomkat Product Review:
Just in time for your late summer (?) getaway, p'raps, deep dub and ambient specialists Deadbeat and DJ Olive select two sanguine but slightly uneasy soundtracks for sippin' caipirihnas and crackin' coconuts by the beach. Scott Monteith aka Deadbeat corrals 14 numbers from friends, contemporaries and like-minded souls, opening with his own lush-out, 'Laura Solaris' and sashaying through highlights such as Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer's sophisticated electro-jazz dissection 'Pianofup', and Tobias.'s shimmering electronic diffusions in 'Subterranean' to Thomas Fehlmann's swaying 'Embrace' to an electro-steppin' dub from Pole, and NSI.'s beautifully blown-out 'Violant'. DJ Olive's selection is more esoteric and wide-ranging, drawing for 13 deep listening gems including Phil Niblock's floating 'Bells & Timps' and Pauline Oliveros' 'Cows Cows Cows', beside beautiful moments from Jim O'Rourke, Fennesz, Marina Rosenfeld, Eyvind Kang, Andris Brazus, Raz Mesinai, Lloop, Once11, and Olive himself.
