Boomkat Product Review:
Debonaire reworks of Italian legend Alessandro Alessandroni’s 1978 efforts in the cosmic funk arena
Trailing the 2017 EP of previously unreleased originals recorded at Ultrasonic Studios, Bovisa & Calibre 35 spark off ‘Afro Voodoo’ at a jaunty angle with additional drums, synths and organ keys primed for the disco peacocks, before pAd take ‘Afro Darkness’ for a slower cruise gassed on strapping bass arps and lush cosmic pads. Jolly Mare provide a suitably playful rework of ‘Afro Discoteca’ makign use of the original’s honking motifs in a classic, streamlined disco-funk groove, and L.U.C.A. wrap up with a more mystic take on ‘Afro Darkness’ full of congas and sloping xylophone in a way recalling Rusty Egan’s ‘Burundi Black’ remix.
