Boomkat Product Review:
Owen Ashworth has been recording as Casiotone For The Painfully Alone for some eleven years now, yet this odds 'n' ends compendium collects only three year's worth, though still manages to supply fifteen tracks originally released between 2004 and 2007 on various 7" sides and compilations. In addition to outstanding original compositions like 'White Corolla' and 'Old Panda Days' Ashworth lays down some pretty impressive covers too: Missy Elliott's 'Hot Boyz' is handled with a lo-fi down-a-phoneline feel, while Paul Simon's Graceland sounds typically Casiotone, imbued with gritty, fourtrack emotion. Bruce Springsteen gets two nods, namely a vocoded rendition of 'Born In The USA' and faithful version of 'Streets Of Philadelphia'. A fine selection and no mistake.
