Metrist gives Local Action something a little more raggo to get down with, after remixing 96 Back in late ’23
“Metrist has been “blowing minds, breaking brains and snapping necks” (credit: one of many enthusiastic Bandcamp comments for said ‘Laco’ remix) for a decade now, primarily releasing on Timedance and his own SOSOSO label to build a singular sound that’s half studied sound design, half rave-weathered spangledness. Club music that’s low-brow and high-brow in equal measures, basically: esoteric ecstasy music.
‘Acka’ and ‘Thatbues’ have all the hallmarks of our favourite Metrist releases, galloping drums, wonky synth riffs and snatched samples that feel like a call to arms every time they hit, but also feel like the start of something new, taking the wide-eyed rush of his ‘Laco’ remix as a jumping off point. We can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
We’re not the only ones: Jamie xx recently recruited Metrist for his recent The Floor residency at MOT, Shygirl included the ‘Laco’ remix in her Fabric CD, and DJ support has come from Joy O, Bicep, Ben UFO and more.”
