Boomkat Product Review:
There's something very unassuming, even dismissive about that album title, as if it's saying: "abcdefg, etc... these are just a few of the notes that went into the making of this record". In fact, this is a very lovingly assembled piece of work - to the point where each individual copy is cut, folded and stamped by hand. The DIY ethic is carried over into the music itself, which was recorded "at the fireside" of former Incredible String Band member Macolm Le Maistre, and is always coloured by a homespun intimacy. Scott's voice transcends Scot-folk conventions, incorporating hints at skiffle, music hall crooning and more than a small amount of Leslie Feist. There must be more than a dozen or so dulcet acoustic albums of this ilk released per week, but Scott's effervescent delivery and quietly magical arrangements (e.g. the combination of vocal harmonising, sparse piano and shimmering bells on opener 'Downriver') set this one apart.
