A White Rainbow Spanning The Dark
We haven't heard much from Donato Wharton since his brace of City Centre Offices LPs in 2004 and 2006, but the Cardiff-born, Stuttgart-raised and currently London-based artist has been busy in the interim, concentrating on his work as sound designer and composer for theatre and dance. Indeed, A White Rainbow Spanning The Dark is inspired by the endless air and train-miles that he's racked up along the way - beautifully evoking the listlessness and melancholy of the airport, the hotel, the foreign city, of hours spent in transit and liminal space. With track titles like 'A Vast White Solitude', 'In A Mute Scape' and 'Mind Like A Snow Cloud', it doesn't take Columbo to work out where his head is at. Working primarily with guitar and field recordings, he maps out strange and solemn topographies with passion and acuity, forcing you to contemplate your own shifting position in space and time. This is the second instalment in Serein's Seasons series, limited to 500 for the world, pressed on heavyweight vinyl and housed in unique, hand-numbered sleeves.
