Boomkat Product Review:
Following up his delightful - and highly complex - Heartland EP, Owen Pallett simplifies his setup somewhat and returns with a four-song EP recorded in New York over the course of a week, utilising little more than a violin, Moog and drums. Pallett himself considers the outcome to most closely resemble the material on his debut album as Final Fantasy, Has A Good Home, and there's undoubtedly a more playful, direct approach at work compared to Heartland's tendencies towards labyrinthine complexity. The great lead track, 'A Man With No Ankles sets the tone for a shift in direction with its breezy, electronically-reinforced backdrop, while Pallett's layered string arrangements are at their whirlwind best on 'Scandal At The Parkade'.
