Boomkat Product Review:
Following his marvelous archival 7" with Cosey Fanni Tutti, BiP_HOp general, Phillipe Petit, offers seven luscious tracks utilising processed acoustics, field recordings, synths, piano, turntables and found sounds. There's something slightly Philip Jeck-like about his work here, in the way he deftly and mysteriously overlaps varying elements of texture and tone into a imperceptible patchwork of shifting surfaces, espcially in the neo-classicism of 'Pellicula' with its sublimely discordant violin from James Johnston. The lengthy centre-piece 'The Nuptial Fights Of Fireflies' has a hint of Helge Sten's Deathprod buried in the arrangement of treated trumpet signals and creaking, swelling, abyysal atmospheres, and the noirish cinematic beauty of 'Night Elves Jukebox' recalls the Caretaker, if was only used midnight jazz records, and recorded underwater. A very atmospheric and unpredictable set, really worth investigating for all lovers of crackly collage music.
