Boomkat Product Review:
Perc Trax chief Ali Wells follows his widely acclaimed Wicker & Steel LP quicksharp with a new 4-track EP advancing his vision of radgy, more-British-than-thou industrial techno. Wells' infatuation with noise and extreme music is well-documented, and is brought right to the fore on the gnarly title track - a pulverising drum and feedback assault that sounds like a soundclash between British Murder Boys and Techno Animal. 'Cash 4 Gold' is a winning synthesis of ambient techno and minimal wave, steered by stripped-down, ASC-esque steppers' drum patterns, while 'Boy' is breakbeat-powered dancefloor-bludgeoning in the well-honed Perc style. Along with 'Cash 4 Gold', the pensive 'Before I Go' suggests that while brutality is what this producer is best known for, his real talent may lie in dreamier territory. Quality EP, a must-check for the ever-growing cult of Perc Trax.
