Boomkat Product Review:
**Upfront exclusive** Very smart debut album from LA's Yuk, a lo-fi and beat-fried contemporary of Dem Hunger and Teebs. With the cryptically titled 'a d w a' he's nailed that fuzzy-yet-viscous style of boom-slap psychedelia that makes LA so interesting right now, drawing striking comparisons to the likes of Ras G and Take, or a murkier Fly Lo. The tape pressing certainly enhances his sound, adding an extra gauze of ferric filtered grit and grain, but it's still easy to tell he's got a knack for beautifully ethereal electronic melody, perhaps closer to Blue Daisy or even Panda Bear than many of his fellow heads. On 'Adept-ation for Dev' and with the swirling sitars of 'ofwildermesstheme' he also conjures the THC-infused spirituality of Gonjasufi, whereas the Noah Lennox comparison is surely apt for the angelic harmonics of 'Iris Dahlia' or 'Emilia Reflection'. Meanwhile on the scuffed collages of 'Sunday rehike for MD' and in Teebs' pastoral, melodic refix of 'Onlywhenshesmiles' you should be suitably intoxicated and ready to flip back to the start for daze. A real must for fans of Dem Hunger and the perfect accomapniment to the awesome As Valet album also out this week. Very highly recommended!
