Boomkat Product Review:
Nina Kraviz’s Trip label looks closer to home with Russian duo PTU’s 3rd album of raw techno extractions. Respectively known as Alina Izolenta and Kamil Ea, PTU have previously released on Pomassl’s Laton label, and were remixed by DJ Sotofett for a 12” in 2014.
A Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day cycles seven tracks recorded in Kazan and Moscow during sessions dating back to 2014 and hearkens back to the thrill of discovery that they both felt during their formative years, when precious hard drive swaps and and pirated CDs opened them up to worlds of music beyond their homes in Siberia and on the Volga.
In a rare way they’ve managed to channel that experience into the rudimentary immediacy and enigmatic allure of these tracks, resulting a range of experiments from the mental ambient extraction of Intact Alef to a slew of rugged, screwy bangers including the titular alien box banger, frenetic braindance acid in Yes, and the warped techno contours of Armlet.
