Boomkat Product Review:
Another bumper pack from Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons label, this compilation again sweeps up some of the best moments from the blink-and-you’ll-miss-‘em 12”s you probably didn’t manage to get a hold of. It’s grinding, teutonic stuff with a twisted low-end that comes as a welcome addition to any 4/4 sound; we’ve got Anstam, Cosmin TRG, Marcel Dettmann, Dark Sky, Addison Groove, Benjamin Damage & Doc Daneeka and Phon.o all dropping tracks that put as much thought into the rumble as there is in the clockwork 909 pulse. It should come as no surprise that Dettmann’s ‘Deluge’ is an album highlight, solidifying his place as pretty much the go-to guy in the industry for squelching analogue perfection. Elsewhere though we have sub rattler ‘Carmichael’ from Anstam which slowly builds in snake like synth sounds over a bed of almost pure tonal abuse. The best is saved for last though with Shed closing up proceedings with the crunchy ‘RQ-170’ that sort of sounds like Bola reworking Key Nell… or something. Bang on.
