Boomkat Product Review:
Trip's Icelandic golden boy, Bjarki explores his ‘90s techno, rave and IDM fetishes to the fullest in a strong debut album for Nina Kraviz’s label - only its 2nd solo artist release following a string of kicking comps.
“Б" wears its influences proudly, turning cues from AFX, Æ, Burial and Belgian Techno into a lushly symphonic, insistently kinetic album of dance music with a wide, timeless appeal across generations of ravers.
If you’re only here for bangers, then makes sure to check the brutal kicks and rave stabs on Here It Comes Can You Feel It 92 Hoover 2, or the nimbly tweaked Chi acid styles of Opalocka Acid Groove 12 Bit Mix and Planet Earth Q94.
But there’s much more twisted gear on offer if you’re willing to stick around; proving equally adept at deep breakbeat rave in the weightless dimensions of As You Remember and the braindance stimulations of MIDI 1 4-AUG2 and T4iT, whilst Marsian Raver sounds like Burial gone AI, and It’s Just My Thing could almost be some vintage Daft Punk play.
