Boomkat Product Review:
Manchester-based Howes scales up a debut LP of frayed, knackered electronica with 3.5 Degrees for Melodic.
It may be a smudged and unsteady sound but, Howes’ influences are clear to hear amongst the fizzing tape textures and warbling electronic tone, taking cues from Stott here, or the BBC Radiophonic Workshop there, and adding a touch of curdled, well-worn hauntological traits to sound out an archaic, derivative sort of lo-fi electronic humbleness that may well suit followers of Cotton Goods, Huerco S’ slower moments, or Melodic fayre like King of the Mountains or Georges Vert.
