Boomkat Product Review:
Opal Tapes affirm a ferrous connection with quiet house types Perfume Advert in their deliciously gauzy '+200 Gamma' tape. The follow-up to the cottony grooves of 'Kappa Downs' for Where To Now? marks a slight return and augmentation of the sound they first presented with 'Tulpa' back in 2013 for 1080p, eking out a space somewhere between Jan Jelinek's lowlit Gramm album, Sagat's dusty techno and pre-knackered Andy Stott. The session runs to 6 tracks of ambient-tempered slow-house, coupling systolic thrum with scratchy small sound textures and plangent, plonging chords that drift into the ether. It's an endearingly innocent and unconceited bit of work, one of Opal Tapes most charming, we reckon.
