Boomkat Product Review:
Now here's a curiosity for you: Swissair's 15, Joulukuuta 1981 (meaning 15th December 1981) was the work of a bunch of sixteen year olds, originally released as a cassette in 1982. These precocious Finns started out under the banner of punk rock but having digested some of the twentieth century's key avant-garde works set about recording some audacious and peculiar improvisations. The bizarre piano, string and drum sounds that emanate from these sessions sound as though they've been engraved into the recordings with a craft knife. This thick, dust-covered production is attributable to the primitive cassette recordings - which themselves contribute as much to the release as any instrument: when there's a pause or a brief silence between the musical non sequiturs you'll find a rising swell in tape hiss and incidental noise. A strange piece of work this, and quite sonically mysterious.
