Boomkat Product Review:
East Of Oceans is Brock Van Wey aka BVDub's alias for the more uptempo side of his atmospheric output. He's previously appeared under that moniker on ASC's Auxiliary Symbol series and '121 Years' is its debut album. As with much of Brock's output, it teeters on the edge of a blissful abyss. Some of the drum programming harks back to that halcyon happy hardcore era, when it was just on the cusp of 4/4 and breakbeat jungle, as with '1995 To Forever', or the kind of spindly breakbeat techno intricacies that Orbital used to do so well, on the likes of '9 Winters To Tell You' or even D.I.E-style Detroit electro on '10 Days We Shared'. But the defining feature is his taste for progressive trance arrangement, rich in harmony and innocent vocals for lovers of that pilled-up, poignant swoon.
