Boomkat Product Review:
Light Sounds Dark hand the reins to Melvin Oliphant III a.k.a. Traxx for Spiritual Matters + Cosmic Guidance in compiling the latest, mind-bending excursion on their incredible label.
In the strongest tradition, 1 × 𝒇cycle/s = 𝒇Hz blurs the distinctions between generic taxonomy, mixtape assembly and sonic spell-casting; navigating the senses thru 12 tracks of psychedelic provenance and unfettered outsider expressionism.
They’ve opted to provide an artist list for this session, providing a highly useful springboard for anyone who fancies further research or attempting to draw binds between these far flung pieces, ranging as far and wide as a string study from Ilhan Mimaroglu thru to the pulsating, murky abstraction of original Xeerox member, Javier Hernando and some proper freakish darkwave from Norway’s Autentisk Film.
If we’re honest, we only recognise one of the pieces, but never knew the artist or track title, so a big thanks for pointing us in the direction of NKVD’s work with Konstruktivits, and likewise the loping, grungy cut-up of The Horse He’s Sick (just gotta work out/track down the titles now), but, like we say it all works perfectly as a sort of personal, hand-picked mixtape/compilation to be enjoyed in myriad altered states as much a gateway to the sonic netherworld for dilettantish diggers and curious freaks alike.
