snd / frank bretschneider - Blir02
Recently unearthed in SND's archive, this collaboration between SND and Frank Bretschneider originally came out in 2000 and has been more or less unavailable since. The 12" comprises 4 tracks of severely reduced electronic sounds and rhythms with a condensed sense of funk which has lost little of it's swing or glide since its original release. In fact, in the intervening ten years a whole genre has attempted to do what happens in these four tracks, but rarely achieved it with as much gait and subtlety as these guys. Eschewing any peaking acrobatics, the duo hit tweakin' syncopations of bleep 'n bass primed for layering with similarly stripped down material by capable DJs: tracks A1 and A2 are like radar bleeps rewired to track the ghosts of Brown and Jackson, while B1 and B2 are a masterclass in rolling micro-house grooves. Recommended to any self respecting minimalist who doesn't already own a copy!
