frivolous - Island Of Sanctity
Stephan Betke's mighty Scape imprint takes a step into the future of house with an a wicked set of tracks from Canadian micro house fiend Frivolous. Coming in three versions on a housin' theme, "island of sancitity V2' is cut for the A-side, a deep and long tripping house tool packed with myriad of samples and influences, this definitely isn't your standard micro house fayre. Structured around a bassline reminiscent of Ben Klock's springy subs style, and a taut percussive palette that he's made his own, Frivolous knits in elements of Blues, pop and dub house with a frothy sense of fun and the sort of spatial awareness that only comes from the finest producers. 'Island V3' on the flip opts for a sexy filtered house vibe that places him up there next to Guillaume and the Coutu Dumonts as a purveyor of high class housisms, while the 'island acoustic edit' swiftly diverts into lush and downbeat pop with a heartwarming performance from an unnamed vocalist with a remarkable similarity to Jana Hunter. Frivolous places himself in the upper echelons of the micro house/minimal tech house scene with this release, it's well recommended.
