lucy & silent servant - History Survivors
Two of contemporary techno's most lionised practitioners team up to produce two sprawling 10min+ monsters. The canvas is wide enough for Lucy and Juan Mendez to satisfy both the clubs' hunger for ballistic 4/4 rhythm and their own hunger for experimentation, and, most importantly, the collaboration amounts to more than the sum of its parts - there really is plenty to sink your fangs into. 'Dormancy Survivors' is the more obviously dancefloor-friendly of the cuts, all rolling toms and shimmering BC chords - gradually engulfed by noxious clouds of noise - for the 4am eternal. 'Victors History' makes a deeper impression on us: it's choppy, spring-loaded drum patterns splitting the difference between the special ops dread of Vatican Shadow and Karl O'Connor at his stealthiest. Pinched laser zaps, stately string pads and a distant roar of imperial distortion gradually converge to make this an essential missive for the ever-growing horde of techno darkheads.
