shoc corridor - Artificial Horizon EP
Sterling archival unearthing of a genuine post-punk gem from obscure and short-lived London band, Shoc Corridor's 1983 debut album, backed with excellent new remixes by Mordant Music, Bepotel and Oubys. Sleekly mixing traces of linear, motorik Krautrock with darker Belgian EBM and disembodied vox, 'Artificial Horizon' sounds waaay ahead of its time, almost like a forerunner to the sound Pump defined years later on 'Sombrero Fallout'. The remixes are suitably up to scratch and well appointed: original industrial agitator Ian Hicks aka Mordant Music gives a swarming, splintered revision laced with kinetic modular tones; Bepotel slows it to a medicated industro-dub slump; Oubys replaces the original's moody romance with ruffcut improvised electronics on a heads-down throb. Highly recommended!
