j velez - MMT Tape Series: Home Recordings 1996-1999
The top bods at Rush Hour have collated and shuffled up the best of Jorge Velez's raw-tae-f**k house traxx recorded 1996-1999 in Jersey City, together with unreleased gear and special album edits. Velez has already made waves with his Professor Genius material for L.I.E.S., and this unreleased gear includes a tidy bit of lo-fi Drexciyan aquafunk called 'Number Two', plus a couple of abstract miniatures - the Jamal Moss-like twinkle of 'Dewy Garden' and 'Big Gray Bldg', which sound like something off Actress' 'RIP' - plus the dusty alien bump of 'Hi Jinks'. There are also seven album edits of tracks already on the MMT Tape series 12"s, including the proto-STL styles of 'Under The Sea' and the Liquid Sex sounds of 'Untitled 2.1', ading up to 16 wcuts of weirdly prescient machine abstraction that should connect with fans of NWAQ, Ital, Jamal Moss, Xosar, Terrence Dixon…
