computer jay - Savage Planet Discotheque
Solo, LA's Computer Jay's a once-a-year kinda guy. For 2012 the widely revered studio boffin and beat maker drops six ripe and juicy beats 'pon Weird Science. A-side features the psych-funky breaks and loungey synth flux of 'The Great Wall Of Self Awareness' next to the mightily compressed electro brain-squeezer 'Noise From The Century' - honestly, what the f**k's he doing with those subs?! - and the bittersweet, chuggin' wade of 'Omni Bent'. B-side his 'Savage Planet Discotheque' is in full effect with squashed drums and frothing bleeps sealed by mad jazzy vocals from Shafiq Husayn & Jimetta Rose, beside the envelope-pushing slowfast bounce of 'The Dead End's Dead End', and the wheezy greaze of 'System Active'. This has gotta be one of the best leftfield hip hop knocks we've heard all year.
