barnt - Is This What They Were Born For?
Cologne's Daniel Ansorge aka Barnt returns to Magazine, the label he co-founded, with three time-and-space straddling KrautHaus aces. It's his first solo issue for the label since 'What Is A Number, That A Man May Know It?' in 2010, and follows a couple of acclaimed cuts for Mule Musiq and Cómeme with probably his darkest gear to date. We're really taken by the para-dimensional A-side trip 'All Worlds All Times', imagining a dark, arcane mixture of late '80s New York house and droning kosmiche that begs to be played at body-shaking volume in a dark, crumbling warehouse. For contrast, 'U R D J' removes us to a beatless, Popol Vuh-like breakdown of angelic chorales and billowing synth tones, but the most epic is saved the B-side: 'Is This What They Were Born For?' is aerobic mysticism at its most refined, a side-long existential odyssey calibrating phuturist machine patterns and longhair '70s synth visions.
