jon mueller & james plotkin - Terminal Velocity
**Individually numbered edition of 500 pressed on 200g vinyl - some copies on transparent orange wax! Packaged in heavy-duty Stoughton tip-on gatefold jacket printed on felt textured stock to compliment Karlynn Holland's graphite drawings** Master percussionist Jon Mueller meets engineering supremo and maverick musician James Plotkin for the concentrated follow-up to their work on Mueller's 2009 LP 'Physical Changes'. 'Terminal Velocity' came about thru days of spontaneous recordings made in rural Wisconsin after the duo performed together at the Utech Records Music Festival in June 2011. Both players operate at the slowest pace, stretching out the moment in order to fully savour its filigree tension and pensive drama. Mueller's deliberate strikes are allowed to ring out and bloom, gradually inflating the space with layers of resonant density while Plotkin's electronics ooze outwards, their respective radiations mingling in the ether to precipitate rich harmonics and intense, roiling pressure systems which bloom and disperse with the elemental majesty of a Charlemagne Palestine composition. Fans of Mike Weis, Steven Hess or Helm should spend some time here - it's an absorbing, deeply textured listen. Highly Recommended.
