the fear ratio (james ruskin & mark broom) - Skana
Serious new EP from James Ruskin and Mark Broom aka The Fear Ratio, exploring that fruitful buffer zone between techno, darked-out IDM and more experimental styles from the 'lectronic front line. 'Dirty Paws' and 'Fedec' both roll out on a Regis-style steppers' techno flex, the former also summoning the sporadic dancefloor assaults of Carsten Nicolai and Byetone, the latter accented with distorted kick stabs and the kind of moody blue atmospherics which root the whole Fear Ratio project in the UK post-rave continuum. 'Skana' is dreamy but still hard-as-nails dub-techno for the early hours, and 'Kingdom Of Days' provides a suitably dystopian ambient denouement to what is, probably, the most satisfying and accomplished Fear Ratio offering to date.
