conrad schnitzler - ConTainer T1-12: 1971-1983 (Deluxe 8LP Box Set)
**Heavyweight 8LP boxset containing four deluxe tri-fold gatefold jackets/double albums plus official, individually numbered certificate of ownership, housed in a deluxe canvas box and limited to an edition of just 500 copies** VOD honour the enduring legacy of the late, great Conrad Schnitzler with their 100th catalogue number and huge retrospective of his work between 1971-1983. Regarded a tireless innovator and eternally influential pioneer of electronic music, Schnitzler studied with Jospeh Beuys in the mid 1960's and later applied his avant-garde thinking and practice to the earliest works of Tangerine Dream and Kluster. These 8LPs originally appeared on a 6-tape set on Transmitter Tapes in 1983 and document his shift away from group work on a solo trajectory deep into man-machine symbiosis, ranging from stoically abstract industrial pulses and proto-techno to minimalistic "pop songs". It's most interesting to play the first and last LP in succession, noting the transition from a complete rejection of melody in the earliest instance, to the pop brilliance of his output in '82. But there's still a strong sense of linearity and a taste for sleek metallic surfaces shared between the two stages which belie his unmistakable, unswerving sonic character. In between we're privy the elemental genesis of what would evetually become Industrial music, Minimal Wave and Techno, exploring every integer of his hand-built machine's functions with patient, attuned precision and insatiable hunger for the most abstract, psychoactive electronic timbres. This a staggering, foundational body of work and hugely recommended to those with enough time and money on their hands to give it the attention it deserves.
