father yod & the source family - The Thought Adjusters
**Bonkers but highly endearing hippie psyche-funk jams from the notorious commune leader and self-described "deity" who preferred to be known as YaHoWha. Double LP housed in heavyweight tip-on style gatefold jacket** "During his time on our planet, Father Yod understood that beauty and joy, the things of Heaven, were meant to inform and inspire our time here on Earth. His family of thirteen wives and over a hundred other beloved members were part of the Renaissance of the 1960s and 70s among the young people of Los Angeles and elsewhere, and the music that Father made and encouraged others in the family to make is the shining example of what makes The Source Family an underground American legend. During the early-to-mid 1970s, as the Source Family roamed from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Hawaii, nine albums were recorded and offered for sale at The Source restaurant. In LA and anywhere else they found themselves. Credited to Father Yod & The Spirit Of '76, YaHoWha13, and The Savage Sons Of Ya Ho Wha, all of these records were issued with several discs of additional material in the 1990s as part of an enormous CD box set called 'God And Hair'. Thirty years and more after the passing of Father (he died after a hang gliding accident) and the dispersal of his Family, theirs is a still a message that the world needs now! But how to continue to send it further? Enter Drag City... Following a number of reissues and unearthed rarities, the label present 'The Thought Adjusters'. The focus here is on extended rhythms created not only by YaHoWha13 but by all the family musicians, created in support of Father as he made his teachings, with all the jams integrating both aspects; music and wisdom. Musicians on this record include Pythias, Sunflower, Djin, Octavius, Rhythm, Vibration and Zoraster, with backing vocals from Ahom, Aquariana, Cinderella and Anastasia. Truly, a family vibe can be felt in the recordings here, as impromptu teachings from Father are augmented by improvised riffs which blossom into lengthy mind-and-soul-excursions, heavy with communal rock and blistering thoughts from the band and Father. After a brief opening sounding of ritual bells, these four sides are filled to the max with five monolithic jams meant to open your head, which was the goal of everyday life with The Source Family. Notes explaining the physical and philosophical paths of Father Yod are written by Source Family member, scribe and archivist Isis Aquarian, who also provides many previously unseen photographs."
