david orphan - Songs For Hannah Henley
**The latest transmission from the Andy Votel / Demdike Stare curated Pre-Cert Home Entertainment label, in conjunction with the bespoke Devon Folklore Tapes - limited to an edition of 500 copies for the world** David Orphan, he ov the murmured-about Devon Folklore Tapes, presents his vinyl debut for Demdike Stare and Andy Votel's Pre-Cert Home Entertainment. If you're fleet of finger, you may have copped one of the deliciously bespoke tape editions which Finders Keepers affiliate Orphan (aka David Chatton Barker) was involved with, but worry not if your attentions were elsewhere, because this expanded and revised edition of 'Songs For Hannah Henley' is really quite special. Occupying a hexed nexus between library music, field recordings, found sound and myth, the soundtrack to Hannah Henley casts old soviet electronic organs and tape loops into a creaky narrative with hypnotic effect. A blurred and ghostly portrait of the eponymous witch, a "portrait of neatness and cleanliness" who "wore short petticoats, with a large white apron, white as the driven snow" appears to the listener, helped in no small part by the rear sleeve text researched by Orphan. But it's the nuance and quietly spellbinding tactility of the patchworked musical (and non-musical) ingredients which give flesh to her image whilst leaving so much to the imagination....
