Francesco Baudazzi - best known as Obtane - makes his Surface Records debut with four tracks revealing his more unstable and experimental productions. To date his darkly sleek and electro-acoustically spacious grooves have appeared on his own Zooloft label, Synewave and Stroboscopiuc Artefacts, among others, but they've rarely sounded as disturbed or emotive as on this platter. A-side we find the roiling, acid-bitten synths of 'C.A.M.E.A.' dancing around a submerged 4/4 with evil intent, while label-owner, 65D Mavericks cuts into the electrical storm of 'Rosa dei Venti' with a very useful edit. Flipside 'Propaganda' is closest to his typical, trippy output, but the grungy underwater turbulence of 'Anello' - produced with Dino Sanatini - and the introverted psychedelics of 'The End?' are more esoteric, special.
