Following editions from Karl O'Connor, Sleeparchive, Mick Harris and Rose Kallal, Paul Purgas' (Emptyset) art imprint We Can Elude Control presents three ritualistic, puristic post-techno experiments by sound artist, Tom Richards. Rhythmically focussed and laced with an abrasive yet hypnotic quality, his three improvised tracks feature custom built hardware used to create a taut lattice of looped polyrhythmic percussion layered with stray radio signals and visceral tones. Their intuitive, repetitive composition recalls Nicholas Collins' fractious 'Devils Music', the hyperventilating arrangements of Anne-James Chaton and Alva Noto, and SND's more abstract reductions, while the CD of live documentations places his craft in a durational context.
