2562 - Air Jordan
Air Jordan' is 2562's unpredicted sidestep into bold, and compelling new territory. His untouchable feel for swinging rhythms and bass are still upfront, but it's his choice of samples and textures - taken from field recordings made in Jordan - which refresh his sound with a dry, dusty, mystically outernational aesthetic. 'Solitary Sheepbell' gives the first taste, with desiccated drum textures melted by fluid, almost radiophonic electronics in a style clearly reminding of Demdike Stare, or Nate Young's amazing 'Stay Asleep (Regression Vol.2)', while 'Desert Lament' sustains the arid vibe, adding a gritty finish to his usually frictionless syncopation and fata morgana chord hovers. It all works best o'er on the flipside with swirling, itchy, sweaty atmospheres trapped and diffused from his sampler into 'Jerash Hekwerken', while 'Nocturnal Drummers' is an intoxicating, impressionistic simulation of afterdark dance rituals. Well recommended!
