jim o'rourke - Old News #7
Connoisseurs of modular synth music should be in their element with the latest batch of Jim O'Rourke experiments rescued from the archives. Mind-bendingly abstract and deeply intrepid, 'Old News #7' comprises four longform experiments spanning 1993 to 2011, cut loud and clear to vinyl (no CD reissue planned) with Mego's typical attention to detail. The first disc breaks down an extended Serge Modular experiment over two sides. It was recorded in 1996-97 at Chicago's Steamroom and maps alien terrain ranging from dense jungles of metallic timbres to noxious dissonance and stunning orchestrations of Autechre-like harmonics. Trust us, this is the sh*t! Further in, side C presents a live jam entitled 'Natural Bonbon Killers' recorded in Nagoya by Carlos Giffoni (or maybe he's collaborating, it's not really clear) at Tokuzo April, 2011, while side D 'Tacere Fas' is a seminal piece of hallucinatory, haunting composition originally released on the legendary These Records label in 1994. Don't miss this: it's a total peach.
