darkside (nicholas jaar) - Darkside EP
Nicholas Jaar and his buddy Dave Harrington introduce their enigmatic Darkside project with this three-track 10". Stalking, slow-motion electronic disco is a fair description for the A-side. On A1 Harrington's tight guitar chops prickle a smouldering bassline while both players share vocal duties, Nico on Soprano and Dave a steady baritone, before the space opens up with narrow-eyed desert-disco licks and Nico's reserved but roomy electronic embellishments. Keeping the steady pace, B-side is more focussed on the groove, both players tethered to a toned, muscular downstroke, saving the vocals for a lustful second half release of slowly pent-up energies.
