After decimating us with 'Stay Asleep (Regression Vol.2)' for NNA Tapes, Nate Young embarks on a mind-bending Out-Techno trip with Dave Shettler. Inspired by the writing of Philip K Dick, Stanislav Lem and John Brunner, they scavenge the desolate remains of a post-apocalyptic landscape from the cockpit of a Sequential Circuits Pro One, intrepidly scouting zones of improvised radioactivity other artists rarely dare to venture. In the low light of scorched skies they project distress signal sinewaves in real time, motivated by an impending sense of desperation and throbbing, rapidly mutating adrenal glands. The sludgy, busted sound of their equipment lends the vivid impression that they're slowly decaying, succumbing to the attrition of acid rainstorms and assassination attempts by rabid survivors of the cataclysmic events that preceded their predicament. The effect is intense, noxious, and toxic, drugging and numbing the mind from the atrocities they each witnessed at starboard and portside and offering a glimmer of artificial, synthesized hope for the future of mankind. It's all we can cling on to right now. Highly recommended!
