james blackshaw - Holly EP
Limited edition pressing of two intimate and introspective new works by James Blackshaw recorded in early 2011. They were the first pieces written by James during a break from touring in support of his eighth album 'All Is Falling' and feature the fluent fingerpicker returning to his roots with swirling, cyclical acoustic 12-string and, for the first time, nylon string guitar. He's also ably accompanied by Charlotte Glasson's clarinet, saxophone, flute and violin, infusing his long form compositions with a fragrant richness reserved only to accentuate certain sections. As reflected in the cover art, the 'Holly EP' is a nod to the French impressionists and composers of the era such as Satie, Debussy and Ravel on 'Holly', while the filigree matrices of overtones and deft patterning on 'Boo, Forever' clearly recall the Takoma influences long at play in his exemplary body of work.
