nils frahm - Unter Uber (5 inch Lathe Cut)
**5-inch, lathe-cut, transparent vinyl** You've got to hand it to these folks at Brian Records; they really know how to make their releases feel like a personal labour of love. This new 5" lathe cut from the imprint arrives in a limited edition of 75 copies(!) in a stamped envelope, within which you'll find an abundance of liner notes and a splendid transparent vinyl lathe cut, with centre labels featuring illustrations of both Nils Frahm and Brian Clough (obviously). As for the music itself, well, 'Unter' and 'Uber' are the same two solo piano pieces released on digital formats by Erased Tapes a month or two back. here's what we had to say back then... These days there are countless pianists and contemporary composers out there specialising in pretty instrumentals that enjoy a crossover appeal with fans of electronica and alternative pop music in general, but of all these indie-classical (if you will) artists Nils Frahm is proving to be something genuinely special. A cohort of Peter Broderick, Frahm is really starting to break free from the ranks of his contemporaries. Unter/Uber is a single that showcases his remarkable wares as both a writer and performer, fashioning two absolutely stunning miniatures that you'll replay over and over. In addition to their spellbinding melodic developments, these pieces are marked out by their characterful and intimate recording circumstances. Frahm's technique is warm and approachable, but it seems all the more so given how loudly you can hear the woody clunk of his keystrokes; presumably microphones were setup inside the body of the piano, and the resultant sound is magnificently full and rounded. Just to reiterate, this release is insanely limited and has already sold-out at source, so act fast to secure one...
