innercity - Future Life (Special Edition W/Cassette)
*Special Edition - comes with a bonus album-length cassette of extra material* Innercity is one Hans Dens, an ambient simulant/recording artist from the same heavy-lidded Antwerp experimental scene as Dolphins Into The Future. He's had a batch of cassettes and ltd CDRs out on Taped Sounds, Ikuisuus, Ruralfaune and his own Why So Serious label (great name!!), previously appearing on these pages with his scrambled 'Visions From Dream State' CD earlier in the year. His murkily fractal sound is at it's best on 'Future Life: Part 1 Simulations' which is discernibly more coherent than what we've previously heard, yet still as far out as you like. On the A-side we enter a wormhole of shimmering chrome textures, electrical current dissolved into a soup of field recorded voices and stray street sounds, to decaying kosmiche filtered through a ket-addled mind and into ferric-burred New Age, before depositing us in the midst of ritual loops and an twinking, orgiastic feline caterwauls. On the other side pulsing, padded kicks lay the path for detuned voices and haunted, off-centre, off-world loops reminding of Shitcluster or Zoviet*France. This follows into a more tumultuous and nightmarish scene of blackened noise and back out to the linear comfort of wheezy droning rhythms. So, you may think you've heard all that before, but like the putative values of Ketamine, this album is nuanced like the shape of K crystals themselves. The trip continues on a special bonus tape, containng 'Part Three: Lost In The Simulation (Untitled 9)', and 'Part Four: The Anti-Mind And Christ Eating Olives At Temple Of Broken Brains', but their secrets shall remain undisclosed until purchase. Recommended!
